Ruud van Nistelrooy has expressed his deep gratitude to Leicester City’s players for embracing a shift in mindset that has helped the team begin recovering from the sting of relegation.

“I had conversations with the owners and board months ago about taking this initiative,” he said.

“But in recent weeks, there’s been no new information. My attention remains on training and preparing for the next game.”

He added, “It’s vital for the club’s future to have clarity, and the sooner the better. That’s something I’ve said before. But my job is to manage the footballing side and keep the team focused.

“What matters is the connection between me and the players, and their commitment to the style of play.
