Sam Allardyce Criticizes Harry Winks Following Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Decision to Drop Him

Harry Winks Has Proven to Be a Reliable Asset for Leicester City

Harry Winks joined Leicester City in the summer of 2023 and quickly became a central figure in Enzo Maresca’s squad, making 45 appearances out of 46 in their Championship campaign.

Maresca frequently praised Winks for his consistent performances in midfield. However, like many of his teammates, Winks has faced more challenges this season.

The former England international was notably absent from the matchday squad in Leicester’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester City on Wednesday.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, who is now in charge, chose not to include him, and the reason has since sparked controversy.

According to The Telegraph, van Nistelrooy dropped Winks because the midfielder refused to stay overnight at Leicester’s training ground prior to the City clash.

Winks preferred to stick to his routine of commuting 100 miles to the club, a decision that reportedly caused tension between him and his manager.

Former England boss Sam Allardyce has come to van Nistelrooy’s defense, calling Winks’ behavior “extremely unprofessional.”

Allardyce emphasized the importance of discipline and commitment in professional football, suggesting that players must adapt to the needs of the team rather than prioritizing personal preferences.
