Leicester City’s strikers have managed just one goal between them this season – the lowest return from any forward group in the Championship.
At every other club, at least one striker has scored twice or more, highlighting a major issue for a team once defined by Jamie Vardy’s consistency.
While supporters are worried, manager Marti Cifuentes remains calm, noting that only four teams have scored more goals overall than City. His main concern would be if they weren’t creating chances at all.
Still, data from Opta shows Leicester rank just 12th in expected goals (13.3) after 11 games – an improvement from earlier in the month, but far from elite.
The strikers have collectively underperformed, with Jordan Ayew, Patson Daka, and Julian Carranza expected to have scored around three goals based on chances created.
Yet, their finishing struggles are compounded by the team’s inconsistent creativity.
City also lead the league for touches in the attacking third, raising questions about whether the forwards are doing enough to position themselves effectively.
Individually, each striker carries baggage. Ayew has only reached double figures for league goals once in his career and is often deployed more as a hold-up player than a scorer.
Daka is now goalless in 34 appearances and visibly low on confidence, while Carranza, still adapting to European football, has yet to replicate his MLS form.
Cifuentes’ tactics haven’t always prioritised goalscoring roles for his forwards, using Ayew’s physicality or Daka’s pace for pressing and buildup instead.
The result is a group lacking both belief and prolific instinct.
Encouragingly, City’s attacking midfielders have stepped up. Abdul Fatawu, Jordan James, Aaron Ramsey, and Jeremy Monga have contributed eight goals between them, with Ramsey in particular showing early promise.
With time and the January transfer window ahead, Cifuentes still has the chance to find a solution – whether through tactical tweaks or by recruiting a new striker.
