Steve Cooper’s first signing confirmed as long-serving coach departs; Birmingham and Norwich involved
Andrew Hughes is set to join Leicester City as their new set-piece coach under Steve Cooper. Hughes, 46, has a rich football background, having made over 600 appearances for clubs such as Leeds, Norwich, Notts County, and Charlton.
After retiring from playing, Hughes began his coaching career at Bolton, where he even had a stint as interim first-team manager about ten years ago. He has since gained experience at clubs like Huddersfield, Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, and Norwich. His extensive background makes him a solid choice for Cooper’s staff.
Meanwhile, Ben Petty has left his role as head of the U21 development team at Leicester to join Chris Davies at Birmingham City as his assistant manager. Both Petty and Davies have previous connections to Leicester.
During his tenure, Petty kept the U21s competitive through a season of many changes, seeing improved results as key players returned towards the end. Petty, who joined Leicester in 2016 from Aston Villa, has a history of working in development team coaching roles. As a player, he represented clubs like Stoke and Hull.
