Julen Lopetegui likely needs at least one more defender, and reports indicate that the Hammers are still closely monitoring Todibo.
Serie A giants Juventus are also interested in Todibo, but the Bianconeri have only proposed a loan with a buy clause. According to Fabrizio Romano, OGC Nice is not interested in such an offer and would prefer a direct transfer.
West Ham offered around €35 million, while Nice is seeking approximately €45 million, creating a gap of €10 million, or roughly £8.4 million. After signing Kilman, it remains uncertain whether West Ham will be willing to exceed £35 million for another defender.
West Ham might revisit the deal towards the end of the transfer window. Lopetegui has inherited a fragile squad from David Moyes, and the rebuilding task is significant.
West Ham has signed three players already but likely needs another three or four. Signing a new right-back or a versatile full-back is a priority. Additionally, the Hammers need a new striker, even if they do not plan to sell Danny Ings. With Lucas Paqueta’s future uncertain, acquiring another top-quality central midfielder is also necessary.
Given this situation, it is highly unlikely that West Ham will prioritize signing another defender on a big-money deal when urgent needs exist elsewhere. Once they bolster other areas of the pitch, they can look to renegotiate a deal for Todibo if he remains available.
