Yves Bissouma has confirmed through his Instagram account that he has successfully undergone ankle surgery.

The Mali international sustained the injury during a recent World Cup qualifier against Madagascar, only moments after being introduced as a substitute.

Following a heavy challenge, he was stretchered off the pitch and has since been undergoing a series of medical examinations.

Bissouma has yet to make an appearance for Tottenham Hotspur this season, having missed the start of the campaign with a different problem that reportedly hindered a potential move to Turkish club Fenerbahçe.

Sharing a photo from his hospital bed, the midfielder wrote: “Everything went well. I thank God for everything that happens to me.

Everything happens for a reason — I’m simply following my destiny. Grateful to God for His protection.” In the image, his left ankle can be seen in a cast.

Speaking last Friday before Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa, Thomas Frank confirmed that the former Brighton midfielder faced a spell on the sidelines.

“Biss unfortunately had a situation with the national team — everyone saw that. He sustained a ligament injury to his ankle that will keep him out for weeks,” said the Brentford boss.

It has been a challenging period for the 29-year-old, whose contract expires next summer. Last season, Bissouma re-established himself under Ange Postecoglou after clear-the-air talks and played a vital role in Tottenham’s Europa League success.

This season, however, he has struggled for fitness and form and was excluded from the squad that travelled to Udine for the Super Cup defeat to PSG due to lateness.

Despite these setbacks, Bissouma is still expected to play a part later in the campaign, though a January exit or a free transfer in 2026 remains a strong possibility.
