Tottenham table £13m bid for highly rated Santos full-back Souza, claims Ben Jacobs

Those qualities helped the 19-year-old break into Santos’ senior squad last season, where he featured 24 times and played a key role as the club managed to steer clear of relegation.
For a player so young, his composure and influence stood out in a difficult campaign.
When Santos have possession, Souza’s role bears similarities to how Djed Spence is used at Tottenham.
He pushes high up the pitch, stretches the opposition and looks to make things happen in the final third.
His tendency to whip in early, purposeful crosses also adds an element of unpredictability, often catching defenders off guard.
Over the course of 38 competitive appearances for Santos, Souza has delivered a series of eye-catching performances.
His attacking instincts, energy and technical ability have already led some observers to draw comparisons with Brazilian icon Marcelo, a lofty but telling compliment at such an early stage of his career.
Unsurprisingly, his rise has not gone unnoticed. Football Talk, referencing a recent report, claims Chelsea are monitoring the teenager closely, while Tottenham have also entered the race.
Santos are said to have knocked back an initial Spurs bid, underlining how highly they value the defender.
Tottenham appear keen to move quickly. According to Ben Jacobs, the North London club have returned with an improved £13 million offer after their opening £8 million proposal was rejected, although Santos are reportedly pushing for a sell-on clause to be included in any deal.
Encouragingly for Spurs, the former Brazil Under-17 international is believed to be open to a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during the current winter window.
That said, competition remains fierce. Jacobs adds that several European sides, including AC Milan, have made enquiries, meaning Tottenham will need to act decisively to secure his signature.
While targeting emerging talents like Souza is sensible for the long term, Spurs arguably need players who can contribute immediately.
The Brazilian would represent an exciting prospect, but at 19, regular Premier League minutes may be hard to come by, especially with Destiny Udogie due back.
