Everton’s search for a much-needed attacking spark has reportedly led them into direct competition with Newcastle United for the signature of rising Brazilian talent Allan Elias, who currently plays for Palmeiras and is expected to be available in 2026.
Despite showing glimpses of improvement this season, Everton’s overall campaign has lacked consistency.
They headed into the international break buoyed by a comfortable 2–0 win over Fulham, a performance that highlighted their potential but also reinforced the issues that have persisted since the opening weeks.
David Moyes’ side can be organised and resilient, yet they rarely dominate matches, largely because their forwards have struggled to convert chances.
One of Everton’s biggest disappointments has been the lack of goals from their summer signing Thierno Barry.
After spending heavily to bring him in, supporters on Merseyside reasonably anticipated that he would start repaying that investment with goals.
Instead, Barry has yet to score, leaving the club frustrated by his slow adjustment. Beto, meanwhile, has also found it difficult to replicate the encouraging spells he enjoyed last season.
Despite his physical presence and sporadic flashes of quality, he has scored only twice in 13 appearances across all competitions.
With goals in short supply, the Friedkin Group – now overseeing football operations – appear to be losing patience.
Everton have already been linked with several forwards ahead of the January transfer window, including Joshua Zirkzee and Celtic’s Daizen Maeda.
The latter, in particular, would be a high-impact addition given that he netted 33 goals during a peak season at Celtic.
Reports suggest Maeda is open to departing Scotland, and Everton could potentially secure his services for around £15 million, which would represent strong value for a proven scorer.
However, the Toffees are not solely focused on centre-forwards.
There is also interest in strengthening the creative department responsible for supplying chances to Beto and Barry.
This has led to fresh links with South American talent – most notably, 21-year-old Palmeiras playmaker Allan Elias.
According to new reports from Brazil, relayed by Sport Witness, Everton have now entered the race to sign Allan, joining Newcastle in monitoring his progress.
The young Brazilian has enjoyed an impressive season, registering eight assists and becoming a key figure in Palmeiras’ attacking structure.
His performances at the Club World Cup last summer also drew positive attention.
Coming off the bench against elite opposition such as Chelsea and Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami, Allan demonstrated composure, flair, and a willingness to drive play forward.
Palmeiras manager Abel Ferreira has praised the youngster’s dynamism, stating: “It’s difficult to leave names like Veiga, Mauricio and Murilo out, but Allan comes in and gives a great dynamic.
A machine.” Such acclaim reflects how highly the club values him.
That value is further underlined by Allan’s release clause, reportedly set at €100m (£88m).
This figure signals Palmeiras’ determination to protect their asset but simultaneously creates a major obstacle for Everton.
Although Friedkin showed a willingness to invest heavily in established European talent last summer, committing close to £90m for a relatively unproven South American prospect appears improbable at this stage.
