Tottenham are not alone in their admiration, however. Barcelona are also believed to be keen on securing El Mala’s services and are hoping to beat Spurs to his signature.
Köln are said to value the winger at around £52 million, reflecting both his potential and growing importance.
A fresh update from Sky Germany has added an intriguing twist, suggesting Tottenham could face an unusual complication in any potential deal.
According to the report, El Mala is extremely close to his older brother, Malek, who plays for Köln’s reserve team.
The brothers have reportedly played together since childhood, and Said has previously made it clear that he is reluctant to move clubs without Malek joining him.
That stance influenced a proposed transfer in 2024, when Borussia Dortmund showed strong interest.
At the time, Dortmund were unwilling to include Malek in any deal, prompting Said to shut down the move altogether. He was quoted as saying that Dortmund’s refusal to sign his brother ended his interest.
Despite those claims, this condition may no longer be decisive in Tottenham’s pursuit. When Dortmund made their approach, both brothers were still developing within academy systems.
Since then, Said El Mala’s career has accelerated rapidly.
He is now one of the Bundesliga’s most talked-about young attackers and has earned a call-up to the German national squad.
In contrast, Malek, now 20, is still awaiting his senior debut for Köln, making such a demand unrealistic at present.
