Amanda Staveley Aimed to Appoint a Renowned Director at Tottenham Hotspur

A few months ago, reports frequently suggested that Daniel Levy and Amanda Staveley had discussed a potential minority sale of Tottenham.

However, since the start of the year, those rumors have faded, though other private investors are still reportedly interested in Spurs.

Now, a fresh report has revealed what Staveley’s intentions were if she had successfully acquired a stake in the club.

Amanda Staveley Planned to Bring Dougie Freedman to Spurs

According to The Times, if Staveley had secured enough funds to invest in Tottenham, she planned to make significant leadership changes.

The report claims that the former Newcastle co-owner aimed to bring in Crystal Palace’s director of football, Dougie Freedman, which would have resulted in Johan Lange losing his position.

During his tenure at Palace, Freedman has been instrumental in recruiting young talents who have developed into Premier League stars, including Marc Guehi, Eberechi Eze, Adam Wharton, and Dean Henderson.

However, his time at Selhurst Park is set to conclude this summer, as he has agreed to join Saudi Pro League club Al-Diriyah.

Why Staveley’s Plans Might Not Have Worked

For Staveley to appoint her own director of football, she and her consortium would have needed to acquire a controlling stake in Spurs rather than just a minority share.

It remains uncertain whether that would have been possible, as reports suggest Levy intends to maintain control of the club even in the event of a takeover.

In fact, some analysts believe Levy’s insistence on staying in charge may have discouraged potential investors from making formal offers for the club.
