Ange Postecoglou set high expectations when he confidently stated that he always wins trophies by his second season in charge.

I have always rated him very highly. What he demonstrated both with the national team and for Spurs last season showed me he is a world-class talent. But this season, he has completely disappeared.

“He was handed the captain’s armband, but he didn’t embody the leadership Spurs needed.

He was almost invisible on the pitch. It’s troubling. Yes, he’s 32, but he should still have several good years ahead.

He needs to rediscover the leadership qualities and playing level he showed in previous seasons.

“I honestly don’t know what has happened to him. Whether it’s Postecoglou’s system, his teammates, or something within himself, the drop-off has been shocking.”

With Son turning 33 this summer, questions inevitably arise about his future at Tottenham. There’s no denying that Son has been an outstanding servant for the club and will go down as one of Spurs’ legends.

His contributions over the years have earned him a special place in the hearts of the fans.

However, Tottenham must now look to the future. Son is not the player he once was, and it seems highly unlikely he will reverse his decline as he moves deeper into his thirties.

Keeping Son around in a reduced role might make sense, but if Spurs are serious about competing at the highest level again, they need to find a younger, more dynamic starter.

Whether Son will be willing to accept a lesser role remains a big question.
