Mick Brown, a highly experienced football scout who has previously served as chief scout at both Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers, has shared exclusive insights with Football Insider.

Brown, who maintains strong ties with his former clubs, revealed that 30-year-old Tomas Soucek is no longer seen as a part of manager Graham Potter’s long-term vision at West Ham United.

According to Brown, Potter is planning to revamp the squad to better suit his tactical philosophy.

A key part of that plan involves offloading players who do not fit his preferred system. Soucek is one such player, and the club is now open to selling him.

The funds raised from his potential transfer will reportedly be reinvested in acquiring a new midfielder who aligns more closely with Potter’s possession-based and progressive style of play.

Concerns have emerged regarding Soucek’s effectiveness when the team is out of possession.

Despite his height, aerial dominance, and physical presence, there are doubts about his influence in open play and his ability to consistently contribute across all phases of the game.

Sources at Football Insider recently reported that West Ham are willing to entertain offers in the region of £10 million for the Czech Republic international, with interest mounting from clubs such as Leeds United.

Adding another layer of intrigue to the situation, Brown mentioned that Everton could be a potential destination for Soucek.

David Moyes, who has maintained a solid relationship with Soucek, is reportedly interested in reuniting with him at Goodison Park.

This follows the revelation from Football Insider on 27 April that both Everton and Leeds are expected to compete for Soucek’s signature.

Brown, whose background includes over ten years in senior recruitment roles during Manchester United’s most dominant years, believes that West Ham will prioritize signing a suitable replacement should Soucek depart. “Soucek has done well for West Ham in various ways,” Brown explained.

“But he’s a player who often goes unnoticed during the match. You can forget he’s on the pitch until a set-piece comes in and he gets involved. That’s his strength.”

Brown continued, “Between the two penalty boxes, his contributions are limited. Potter prefers midfielders who are comfortable on the ball, can maintain possession, and drive play forward through the lines.

Soucek doesn’t quite fit that mold, so Potter is prepared to let him go. The idea is to bring in someone more in tune with the manager’s tactical approach.”

Soucek isn’t the only player who may be leaving the London Stadium this summer.

Mohammed Kudus is also attracting attention from other clubs. Brown revealed on 20 May that West Ham are open to offers for the 24-year-old attacker.

Although Kudus has a release clause of £80 million, his inconsistent displays have led the club to consider offers below that value.

Brown noted that Potter is also willing to part ways with Kudus as part of a broader plan to reshape the squad and strengthen key areas through reinvestment.
