Steven Gerrard is reportedly a leading candidate to return to Rangers, as the club prepares for a major overhaul under prospective new American ownership from 49ers Enterprises.

Jordan dismissed that defence, suggesting the board may have been justified in passing on Nisbet. “It’s interesting that fans have these perspectives,” Jordan noted.

“He scored five goals in 26 games the following season and now plays for Millwall. Maybe Rangers simply didn’t see him as worth £4 million.”

In hindsight, Rangers’ decision to avoid signing Nisbet appears sound. Despite a standout season with Hibs, his career stalled afterward, and £4 million would have been a steep price for a player who didn’t offer a significant upgrade.

Still, Gerrard’s interest in Nisbet reflected a desire to bolster the squad, especially in attack, where Alfredo Morelos and Kemar Roofe combined for 26 goals. Nisbet had matched Morelos in league goals that year, so his appeal wasn’t baseless.

If Gerrard returns to Ibrox, proper support will be essential—not only financially, but also in terms of recruitment infrastructure.
