Everton’s bright start to the 2025/26 campaign has quickly been overshadowed by a difficult week that has left supporters frustrated and questioning decisions.

On Tuesday night, David Moyes opted to make a number of changes to his line-up despite Everton not being scheduled to play again until Monday.

The decision came after captain James Tarkowski had insisted that the Toffees were prioritising cup competitions this season, raising expectations of a strong performance at Molineux.

Clubs such as Crystal Palace and Newcastle United ended their long trophy droughts last year, providing a blueprint and encouragement for Everton to follow suit.

Yet that belief did not materialise against Wolves, who themselves have been struggling, and the defeat sparked anger among some sections of the fanbase.

Simon Jordan, however, has taken issue with those criticisms. Speaking on TalkSPORT, the outspoken pundit defended Moyes’ decision-making and accused supporters of being too quick to complain.

“There must be a reason why David felt he needed to rotate the team,” Jordan argued. “He’s prioritising something further down the line.

This is a man who has managed over 1,000 games, most of them in the Premier League.

He knows exactly what he’s doing. Everton have been in a managed decline for five years now, so perhaps people should stop moaning and let the manager get on with it.”

Jordan’s comments followed a recent clash with Sam Allardyce over one of his Everton predictions, but that did little to stop him from taking aim again.

A Sky Sports reporter also suggested that Jack Grealish made the difference when he was introduced in the second half against Wolves, underlining that the players Moyes originally selected were unable to repay his faith.

Jordan acknowledged that there is still quality in the squad, pointing out that Everton had just signed Tyler Dibling for £40 million from Southampton.

“This is someone tipped to be a £100m player,” he said. “Along with the other lads who came on, these are the players Moyes should be able to trust.”

Everton supporters were impressed by Dibling’s full debut, yet many still questioned the scale of rotation, particularly when they had been hoping for a meaningful cup run.

Other sides have shown this week that going strong from the start, securing the result early, and then resting key men is a more effective approach.

Of course, the debate would look different if Moyes had fielded his best XI and one of them picked up an injury.

But as it stands, Everton are left with the FA Cup as their only realistic route to silverware—and it is not even October.
