Oliver Skipp has completed a move to Leicester City from Tottenham Hotspur in a deal valued at over £20 million.
After 16 years with Tottenham, starting in 2008, Skipp joins Leicester as the club’s fifth permanent signing of the summer.
The 23-year-old defensive midfielder is set to help Leicester as they aim to secure their place in the Premier League following their recent relegation.
Skipp’s transfer to Leicester comes as part of manager Steve Cooper’s efforts to strengthen the squad.
He follows Abdul Fatawu, Caleb Okoli, Michael Golding, and Bobby Decordova-Reid as new additions to the team.
Skipp’s signing also reunites him with former Spurs player Harry Winks at Leicester.
Leicester’s Premier League campaign begins with a home fixture against Tottenham, Skipp’s former club.
Although he will be present at the King Power Stadium for the match, he will not participate, with his debut scheduled for the following week’s match against Fulham at Craven Cottage.
In his comments on joining Leicester, Skipp expressed enthusiasm for the move, noting the positive impression he had of the club and its players.
He described the squad as talented and capable of competing strongly in the Premier League.
Skipp also mentioned his previous working relationship with Steve Cooper during their time with England’s national team, which adds to his optimism about contributing to Leicester’s success.
Skipp’s journey began when he was recruited by Tottenham in 2008 and progressed through their youth academy.
He made his first-team debut as an 18-year-old in a League Cup match against West Ham.
Over his career with Tottenham, he accumulated 84 appearances, scoring once in a 2-0 victory against Chelsea last year.
With the arrival of Archie Gray from Leeds for £30 million this summer, Skipp was considered expendable at Tottenham.
In addition to Skipp, Leicester has made several significant moves in the transfer window, including the permanent signing of Abdul Fatawu from Sporting CP and acquiring Caleb Okoli, Michael Golding, Bobby Decordova-Reid, and Facundo Buonanotte.
