After such a dismal, lifeless, and overwhelmingly poor season, many fans, pundits, and observers are questioning why Ruud van Nistelrooy remains in charge at Leicester City Football Club.
Ordinarily, I’d be among the first to raise that very question.
Unfortunately, the current state of the club already provides a clear answer: the Dutchman is still in the role simply because the club cannot afford to sack him.
In simple terms, dismissing van Nistelrooy would require the Foxes to fork out a substantial compensation package, something their budget likely can’t accommodate.
Let’s be honest—his tenure appears all but over in spirit.
However, hiring a new head coach would also involve significant costs, something the Leicester board seems unwilling or unable to take on right now.
Despite this, it’s hard to imagine that chairman Aiyawatt ‘Khun Top’ Srivaddhanaprabha and director of football Jon Rudkin haven’t at least considered showing van Nistelrooy the door.
Regardless of how poorly they’ve managed the club overall, the team’s performances have been equally embarrassing and would surely prompt thoughts of change.

Dorsett has recently provided insights into the reasons behind the club’s reluctance to sack van Nistelrooy, as well as the manager’s own uncertainty about staying on.
According to Dorsett, van Nistelrooy’s position at Leicester remains very much “up in the air.”
The club’s hierarchy has yet to make a definitive decision on his future, and the man himself is reportedly unsure about whether he wants to remain in charge.
In his latest update, Dorsett revealed that following the 3-0 home defeat to Newcastle United last Monday, van Nistelrooy held discussions with the Leicester board.
For now, they decided he would continue in his role. However, there’s still a possibility he could stay beyond this season.
Ultimately, as Dorsett suggests, van Nistelrooy’s fate likely hinges on how the team finishes the current Premier League campaign.
