Glasgow Rangers have continued their aggressive summer recruitment campaign by securing a deal to sign Djeidi Gassama, shortly after officially unveiling Nasser Djiga as their seventh arrival of the transfer window.
Rangers confirm seventh summer signing in Djiga
Despite initial concerns about whether manager Russell Martin would receive substantial backing from the 49ers, Rangers’ summer activity has emphatically answered those doubts.
The club has now brought in Lyall Cameron, Max Aarons, Joe Rothwell, Emmanuel Fernandez, Thelo Aasgaard, and Oscar Cortes on a permanent basis, with Djiga joining on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers as the latest addition.
Following his signing, the 22-year-old centre-back expressed his excitement to the Rangers website, saying:
“I am very happy to join Rangers, it is one of the biggest clubs in Scotland and in Europe. I will try to give everything, to play every game, and I think it is the best team for me. I just want to play and enjoy football with the team.”
Martin also shared his enthusiasm about Djiga’s arrival:
“Nasser is someone who, despite still only being 22, has garnered valuable experience in both the UEFA Champions League and Premier League.
We believe he has all the attributes required to thrive here at Rangers in the upcoming campaign, and I am looking forward to working with him.”
Despite having already brought in seven new faces and begun pre-season preparations, Rangers appear far from done in the market.
Aware of the gulf that still exists between themselves and reigning Scottish Premiership champions Celtic, the 49ers are continuing to seek further reinforcements.
Rangers close in on Gassama signing
According to Sky Sports, the club has reached a deal in principle with Sheffield Wednesday to sign winger Djeidi Gassama.
The 21-year-old is expected to sign a long-term contract at Ibrox and leave behind an increasingly uncertain situation at Hillsborough.
Gassama enjoyed a strong campaign in the Championship last season, recording eight goals and one assist in all competitions.
His performances were instrumental in helping Sheffield Wednesday avoid relegation, and he now looks set for his first taste of Scottish football.
Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl previously praised the young Frenchman’s development and attitude:
“He had a big opportunity in the first half with the transition, and we spoke before about ball positions.
We spoke to the young players about coming in and showing what they can do, and he’s doing so step by step.
He was fantastic in training, and that’s the reason why we took him. It’s not just about defending, we want to attack and play forward. And this is the reason why I put him in.”
With Gassama now poised to become their eighth summer recruit, Rangers’ transfer strategy under Martin and the 49ers appears both ambitious and relentless.
