Sources: Leeds Halt Pursuit of 28-Year-Old

The 28-year-old is in advanced talks with Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town, with the midfielder reportedly favoring a move to the English top flight.

Football Insider revealed on July 23 that Szmodics is keen to join Ipswich and prove himself in the Premier League.

Leeds United had shown interest earlier in the transfer window but are now focusing on other targets as they aim for promotion back to the Premier League.

Szmodics finished last season as the Championship’s top scorer with 27 goals in 44 appearances, helping Blackburn to a 19th-place finish.

Leeds United will not be signing Sammie Szmodics

In addition to winning the Golden Boot, Szmodics was named in the Championship Team of the Season for his outstanding performance.

He also earned his first senior international cap for the Republic of Ireland, starting in their 0-0 draw with Belgium in March.

Leeds are in urgent need of reinforcements for the demanding season ahead if they want to secure promotion back to the Premier League.

The West Yorkshire club has signed Joe Rodon and Jayden Bogle but lost 16 first-team players, including wonderkid Archie Gray to Tottenham.

Football Insider reported on July 30 that Leeds are looking to sign Birmingham City youngster Jordan James to strengthen their midfield.
