Opinion: Moyes must urge TFG to sign Premier League star this summer, as he’s drawn comparisons to Ronaldo.

Carlos Alcaraz officially joined Everton on February 3, just before the close of the transfer window.

The Blues had to submit a deal sheet to the Premier League to finalize the signing after the 11 PM deadline.

However, former Everton scout Bryan King told Goodison News on February 5 that he believes manager David Moyes will be disappointed with only one signing coming to Merseyside.

If that is the case, The Friedkin Group (TFG) could strengthen the squad in the summer, particularly if Everton secures their Premier League status.

One player who should be high on their list is Jean-Philippe Mateta, a long-standing target who has been in outstanding form this season.

In the summer of 2023, Mateta was open to leaving Crystal Palace, with Everton among the clubs interested. At that time, he was available for just £10 million, according to the Liverpool Echo.

However, he remained at Selhurst Park and had a fantastic campaign, scoring 16 goals and providing five assists in 35 Premier League appearances.

His performances even drew comparisons to the legendary Ronaldo, according to The Athletic journalist Rory Smith (BBC Sport).

Mateta has continued to impress this season, netting 10 Premier League goals so far. With his stock rising, several top clubs are monitoring his progress ahead of the summer transfer window, as reported by the Daily Mail on February 9.

Everton should be at the front of the queue to secure his signature.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Armando Broja currently sidelined, Moyes has only one senior striker available—Beto.

The Portuguese forward reportedly sought an exit in January, with Serie A side Atalanta showing interest.

Beto has shown promise, especially after scoring twice in Everton’s 4-0 win over Leicester City on February 1.

However, his inconsistency was evident again on February 8, when he missed a crucial chance in Everton’s 2-0 FA Cup defeat to Bournemouth, leaving Moyes visibly frustrated.

Everton needs a reliable forward who can lead the line for years, and Mateta fits the bill. Given that the club has tracked him before, signing him this summer should be an easy decision for TFG.
