Leeds United defender Max Wober’s future at the club remains uncertain. The 26-year-old Austrian international has returned to Leeds after a loan spell with Borussia Monchengladbach last season.
He is currently training with Leeds’ first team, and manager Daniel Farke plans to utilize his experience as the team aims for a return to the Premier League.
However, Borussia Monchengladbach’s sporting director Roland Virkus has expressed interest in bringing Wober back to Germany on a permanent transfer.
Leeds United is reportedly holding out for a fee of around £8 million. Virkus stated, “We are monitoring the market.
We cannot meet Leeds United’s demands and Leeds are not looking for a loan. That’s why the story is on hold for now,” as reported by Sports Witness. Wober is under contract with Leeds until 2027.
Despite the uncertainty, Virkus remains optimistic about finding a solution, indicating that opportunities for players like Wober can arise late in the transfer window.
Wober’s impressive performance with Austria, reaching the Round of 16 at Euro 2024, has increased interest in him.
He played 27 times and scored twice for Monchengladbach, who finished 14th in the Bundesliga.
With the recent signing of Joe Rodon, Wober might have to wait for his opportunity if Farke decides to retain him.
Nonetheless, Wober is considered a valuable option for Leeds, particularly if injuries occur during the campaign.
