Spurs Decide on Midfielder’s Transfer as Deadline Approaches and Clubs Pursue

Alfie Devine is attracting interest from several clubs for a potential loan deal before Friday’s transfer deadline, according to football.london.

While Tottenham Hotspur has already loaned out several of their promising young players, Devine remains at the club for now.

The midfielder from Warrington had his first experience with regular senior football last season, initially joining Port Vale in League One.

Following a successful stint in Staffordshire, he moved up to the Championship in January, signing with Plymouth Argyle. However, Devine struggled to secure a consistent place in the team there.

Although his playing time in Devon was limited, the attacking midfielder returned to Tottenham’s Hotspur Way training ground this summer with more experience after a year on loan.

Sources at football.london indicate that Tottenham initially planned to keep Devine for the season, but their position has shifted in recent weeks.

Now, Championship clubs Blackburn Rovers and Swansea City are reportedly interested in taking the 20-year-old on loan.

Additionally, Italian side Parma, along with clubs in Germany and other European leagues, have expressed interest in Devine.

Tottenham has until 11 p.m. on Friday to finalize any remaining transfer deals.

In a recent interview with football.london, Tottenham’s manager Ange Postecoglou discussed Devine’s future, weighing whether he would stay with the squad for the season or go out on loan.

“We’ll have a look at it really closely,” the Australian coach said. “Alfie has had a really good pre-season and, compared to last year, he’s definitely developed.

Part of that growth is likely due to his experience playing senior football on loan last year.

We’ll evaluate all the younger players, including Devine, based on any changes to our squad before the season starts.”

Postecoglou emphasized the importance of playing time for Devine’s development, stating, “I wouldn’t want to keep him with us unless I was sure he could get significant game time.

We don’t want to hinder his progress because he’s a player who can make an impact here at Spurs.

Both Devine and other young players like Jamie Donley and Will Lankshear have impressed us with their training and match performances. We’ll carefully consider the best next steps for them.”
