Liverpool Defender Battles for Future Following Newcastle United Transfer Links

Former Newcastle United transfer target Jarell Quansah is battling to secure his future at Liverpool following brief speculation about a potential move to Tyneside during the summer.

The 21-year-old Reds defender has only started one league match this season and recently earned his first Champions League start of the campaign against Lille.

Quansah was previously considered as a possible inclusion in a deal that could have brought Anthony Gordon back to Merseyside.

However, the transfer did not materialize, as Liverpool were unwilling to part with the player.

Newcastle retained Gordon during the Euro 2024 tournament, with manager Eddie Howe determined to keep the winger.

Now, Quansah might be back on the transfer radar as he struggles for opportunities under Liverpool manager Arne Slot.

“Every game is a learning process for myself,” Quansah told the Daily Mirror this week. “I don’t get too down if I make mistakes.

I know I need to learn—it’s going to be a long career for me, hopefully.

“Try to stay level-headed—don’t let the highs get too high or the lows too low.

Temperament is crucial, especially for a young centre-back. I’m always learning from the players around me.”

He added: “I’m not going to say it’s easy—it’s tough. But it’s about preparation, staying in the right mindset, and being in top physical condition.

When you’re not in the team, you still have to do everything you can for the team and keep pushing.”

Newcastle remains in the market for a centre-back but is cautious due to ongoing PSR concerns.

The Magpies recently missed out on signing Uzbek international Abdukodir Khusanov, who joined Manchester City instead.
