One clear concern is the lack of creativity in the final third, raising questions about Brennan Johnson’s long-term role.
Although the Wales winger has delivered exceptional value by scoring the winner in last season’s Europa League final—making the £47.5m fee worthwhile—his overall game has limitations.
Johnson has produced 27 goals in all competitions since joining from Nottingham Forest, demonstrating reliable goalscoring instincts, but his creative output has been poor.

Football Insider claims the club are “eager” to secure Real Sociedad winger Takefusa Kubo, who could effectively replace Johnson.
Spurs are targeting both a centre-forward and a wide player, and Kubo—who has a £52m release clause—fits the bill perfectly, allowing the club to bypass lengthy negotiations.
Their interest in Kubo has intensified partly due to Everton’s refusal to sell Iliman N’Diaye, another winger on Tottenham’s radar. Kubo, 24, has long been regarded as a high-ceiling talent.
Once labelled the “Japanese Messi” by ESPN—due to his dribbling ability, creativity, and left-footed style—he offers the technical qualities Spurs currently lack on the right flank.
While Kubo has recorded only four assists for Real Sociedad since the start of last season, the raw numbers do not fully reflect his impact.
His ball-carrying, vision, and ability to destabilise defences would provide the creativity Tottenham have been missing.
For a Spurs side that desperately needs a more inventive wide threat, signing Kubo appears not only logical but necessary for their ambitions in the second half of the season.
