As Todibo’s imminent move to West Ham approaches, HITC has reported that the club is considering offers for defenders Nayef Aguerd and Konstantinos Mavropanos.
With the arrival of new defensive signings, both Aguerd and Mavropanos may struggle to secure regular playing time this season.
Selling them could also help West Ham raise funds for their remaining transfer targets.
If these transfers proceed, Aguerd and Mavropanos would join Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna as departures from the east London club this summer.
Zouma is set to join Shabab Al-Ahli in the UAE Pro League, while Ogbonna has been released following the expiration of his contract.
West Ham May Consider Selling Aguerd and Mavropanos
Nayef Aguerd made a strong impression after his £30 million transfer from Rennes in 2022, and Mavropanos was expected to be a solid partner following his £19 million move from Stuttgart.
However, their partnership did not meet expectations, contributing to one of the weakest defenses in the league last season. According to HITC, the club’s new summer signings might make their departure more likely.
To address defensive issues, West Ham turned to Wolves captain Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo of OGC Nice, who was originally set to join Juventus.
Kilman was acquired for a significant fee of £40 million, while Todibo, currently on loan, will cost around £35 million next year due to an obligation to buy clause.
Despite being labeled as ‘colossus’ by a fan site for Mavropanos and by Italian media for Aguerd, both players may face reduced roles with the arrival of new signings.
Their combined weekly salaries of £50,000 could ease the wage bill at London Stadium if they are sold.
While these new additions have strained the club’s transfer budget, they could be exactly what West Ham needs to solidify their squad for the upcoming season.
The arrival of new players will likely push Aguerd and Mavropanos further down the defensive pecking order, making it sensible to consider their sale.
‘Here We Go’ for Wan-Bissaka to West Ham
West Ham has been active in the transfer market this summer, securing deals for Wes Foderingham, Max Kilman, Luis Guilherme, Niclas Fullkrug, Crysencio Summerville, Guido Rodriguez, and Jean-Clair Todibo.
They are not done yet, as Fabrizio Romano has reported that they have also agreed to a £15 million deal for Manchester United full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Wan-Bissaka, who has spent five years with the Red Devils and recently fell out of favor with Erik ten Hag, will make the move south.
Previously praised as “outstanding” by Gary Neville, a fresh start at West Ham could be the opportunity Wan-Bissaka needs to rejuvenate his career.
