The Leicester City points deduction case should be resolved before the season starts, despite reports of delays.
Finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider that it is “surprising” the hearing hasn’t started yet. Leicester were charged with breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules in March, reporting losses of £89.7 million in 2022-23. They now face a significant points deduction for the 2024-25 season after securing their return to the Premier League.
According to the Daily Mail, Leicester’s case might extend beyond the start of next season. However, Borson believes the precedent set by Everton and Nottingham Forest’s cases last season should speed up the process, allowing for a resolution before the new campaign begins.
“We’re only in June, and this issue has been ongoing since March. It’s surprising there hasn’t been a hearing yet. There should be a timetable for it to be resolved before the season starts,” Borson said.
“The decision should be quick because last season’s complaints about Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) were due to a lack of framework and punishment guidelines. Now that last season’s cases have been processed, it should be easier to assess this one.”
