The Hammers have agreed on a £27m deal with the UEFA Champions League finalists for Niclas Fullkrug, who underwent a medical with West Ham on Saturday, with the official announcement made earlier on Monday.
However, Julen Lopetegui appears keen to replace both Michail Antonio and Danny Ings, suggesting a second striker might join West Ham alongside Fullkrug.
West Ham’s Bid for Tammy Abraham
According to Calciomercato, West Ham have submitted a bid for Tammy Abraham. The Italian news outlet reports that Roma are looking to offload the England international this summer to raise funds, with his £92,000-a-week wages burdening their finances.
Calciomercato states that West Ham offered around €30m (£25m) for Abraham, who joined Roma from Chelsea in a £34m deal back in August 2021.
However, the east Londoners have not received a positive response from Abraham, as he is reportedly holding out for a move to AC Milan instead.
Additionally, Atalanta might consider moving for Abraham after Gianluca Scamacca suffered serious damage to his anterior cruciate ligament.
The report does not provide a clear timeline, merely indicating that West Ham have “made an attempt” to sign Abraham without specifying if the bid came before or after progress was made in talks to land Fullkrug.
Tim Steidten should look to sign both the England international and Niclas Fullkrug
In our view, West Ham should aim to sign both Abraham and Fullkrug, if possible.
Antonio and Ings only scored eight goals combined last season, which is insufficient for a West Ham side aiming to qualify for Europe again.
If Fullkrug, who is 31, is the only new striker to join and suffers a serious injury, Lopetegui would be back to square one regarding his attacking options.
