Steve Cooper Addresses Leicester City Transfer Challenges as Tottenham Deadline Looms

Steve Cooper has defended Leicester City’s transfer process, attributing the club’s lack of activity to simple misfortune rather than a lack of effort.

Despite Cooper’s pleas for new recruits, few have arrived, particularly in the past month, with Brighton loanee Facundo Buonanotte being the sole addition.

As a result, Leicester will be without a new striker for the season opener, with Patson Daka and Jamie Vardy sidelined due to injuries.

The fanbase’s frustration has grown, especially after the club missed out on targets like Matias Soule and Adam Hlozek.

However, Cooper maintained a calm demeanor during his press conference, emphasizing that the situation is not due to a lack of effort.

“Every season you want to reinforce, you want to strengthen,” he stated. “We’re still going through that process.

The club is working together, and the communication lines are great. In general, it’s been a slow market, and we’ve felt that. It’s not been through a lack of trying.

“It’s a very aligned club, you can see that from top to bottom. You can see why it’s had the success it’s had in its Premier League history because of the way it’s run.

That’s what I’m feeling. Everybody is working hard. Communication lines are clear.

“Some things haven’t gone our way, which has not been the club’s fault. Let’s hope we can be a little more fortunate in the next couple of weeks and when the window shuts, we can be where we want to be.

If we can have a bit more luck, we can support the guys and can become even stronger than we are.

“But all of that is irrelevant because we have a game to prepare for on Monday. We really believe in the guys that are here.”

While supporters hoped for a new striker before the registration deadline for the opening game, which was midday on Friday, Cooper revealed that he had known for some time that no new business would be possible.

This allowed him to focus entirely on Monday night’s match against Tottenham, knowing that all the players available for selection were already at the club.

He explained, “Once I knew this week that there wouldn’t be any additions for Monday night, I put that to one side and focused on the game. That’s the only thing we can influence.”

Despite the challenges, Cooper remains optimistic and focused on preparing his team for the upcoming match, believing in the strength and capability of the current squad.
