Steve Cooper Addresses Striker Transfer Question and Outlines Leicester City Recruitment Priorities
Leicester City manager Steve Cooper is prioritizing attacking signings this summer, and he hasn’t ruled out the possibility of bringing in a new striker.
City suffered their first pre-season defeat on Friday night, losing 1-0 to Serie B side Palermo in Chesterfield. Despite dominating possession and territory, they lacked a decisive edge in the final third for much of the game.
To bolster his attacking options, Cooper is looking for new transfers. He has emphasized the need for an attacking midfielder, highlighted by Wilfred Ndidi’s advanced role on Friday night.
Additionally, Cooper hinted that he would welcome a new striker, although Jamie Vardy is still expected to be the primary forward.
With just over three weeks remaining until the Premier League season opener, Cooper is focused on securing signings as quickly as possible.
Leicester City has already brought in four new players, but after a busy start to July, the past two weeks have seen no new arrivals.
“We need to add players, and that’s what we’re trying to do,” Cooper said. “Something needs to happen. We need players in as quickly as possible. We’re trusting each other to get the right ones in, and hopefully sooner rather than later.
“I think any part of the pitch where we can really make a difference in our game, we’re open to signings. There are some areas that are more prevalent in that fact. That’s what we’re trying to do.
But if we can’t do the things we want, I’m not going to moan about it. We’ll get on with it.
“But at the same time, it would be nice to improve because the step up to the Premier League is a huge one, and we’ve got to step up as a team.
It’s exciting that we’re trying to bring in players we want, and if we can get them over the line, it will help in our process of being a competing Premier League team again.”
Regarding the potential acquisition of a new striker, Cooper added: “We need to see how Jamie is. He’s not with us at the moment. Pato (Daka) is here, and Tom (Cannon) is here. We’re still working out that process.”
