Steve Cooper Shares His Experience Working with Leicester City Owner

Steve Cooper’s tenure at Leicester City has become more stable under the guidance of a supportive and rational owner, but he remains focused on meeting the goals set by the club’s hierarchy.

During his time away from management, Cooper emphasized the importance of having a supportive chairman when considering his next move, which he has found in Leicester’s owner, Aiyawatt “Top” Srivaddhanaprabha.

Prior to the 3-1 loss to Nottingham Forest, Cooper expressed his appreciation for the positive working environment at Leicester, attributing the club’s past successes to the ownership’s approach.

With over a decade of experience in the game, the owners have cultivated an atmosphere that fosters ambition and encouragement.

However, Cooper recognizes that comfort does not equate to leniency regarding expectations.

“I can see why this club has had the success it’s had with this ownership because they make you feel like you want to do well,” Cooper remarked.

“They achieve this through kindness, support, and encouragement. When you engage with him (Top) and meet him, he has a kind nature.

You feel at ease around him; there’s definitely no fear, but a lot of respect. He has a strong presence that allows you to be yourself.”

Cooper noted the supportive environment he sensed even before he accepted the position. “That support was crucial for me in choosing my next job, which ended up being here,” he explained.

The owners are rational and understanding, possessing a wealth of knowledge gained from years of observing the ups and downs of performance and results.

“They understand the challenges that come with the role.”

Despite the supportive atmosphere, Cooper is acutely aware of the expectations placed upon him.

“I’m very clear about the objectives and expectations set for me, which extend beyond just on-field performance,” he stated.

“I live and breathe that every day. It’s all about support and goodwill, and you feel like someone is backing you.

However, we are under no illusions; we need to win games, perform well, and achieve our objectives.”

Sunday marks the sixth anniversary of the tragic helicopter crash at King Power Stadium that claimed the lives of five individuals, including former chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.

Cooper and the squad plan to attend a memorial service in remembrance of that somber day. “It’s the anniversary of a very sad event from six years ago.

We’ll be paying our respects as a club on Sunday. It’s important for me to be part of that in my current role,”he added.
