Report: West Ham Pursuing ‘Special’ Winger Who Wants to Leave Club

The Boot Room: West Ham United Eyeing Summer Move for Leeds United Star Wilfried Gnonto

According to their website (16 July), the news outlet states that the Italy international has informed Elland Road officials of his desire to depart following their failure to secure promotion back to the Premier League.

Currently, Everton is leading the race ahead of Newcastle for his signature. However, the 20-year-old has also attracted interest from West Ham, Nottingham Forest, Leicester City, Wolves, as well as Serie A clubs Como and Roma.

West Ham Expresses Interest in Wilfried Gnonto

Gnonto made his breakthrough into Leeds’ Premier League team at the age of 18 and impressed, despite their relegation. He sought a move last summer, but Leeds refused to sell him against his wishes. Eventually, he regained his place under Daniel Farke after initially being dropped and helped them reach the playoff final.

Following their defeat to Southampton at Wembley, Gnonto’s potential departure is once again being considered. He was previously hailed as a “special talent” by Jesse Marsch, poised to return to the top flight.

Julen Lopetegui aims to bolster his attack amidst interests in Michail Antonio from Saudi and MLS clubs (The Athletic, 15 May), and Southampton’s pursuit of Danny Ings (talkSPORT, 28 May), alongside Said Benrahma’s permanent departure.

Gnonto offers versatility across the frontline and his youth promises excellent resale value for any club. Hence, this transfer saga is one to monitor closely in the weeks ahead.
