Leicester City targeting teenage sensation competing with Jamie Vardy in goal contributions – journalist
At 38 years old, Jamie Vardy remains Leicester City’s leading scorer for the 2024/25 season.
Leicester City aimed to sign a striker during the 2024 summer transfer window but missed out on prolific scorer Santiago Gimenez, who now appears close to joining AC Milan.
Instead, the Foxes secured Odsonne Edouard on loan from Crystal Palace, but the move has not yielded the desired results.
Edouard has yet to score in the Premier League and is rarely included in matchday squads under manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.
This has placed a heavy burden on Jamie Vardy, who remains the club’s primary goal threat at 38 years old.
Vardy has scored six Premier League goals and seven across all competitions during the 2024/25 season, though his form has dipped recently.
As a result, Leicester City is actively seeking additional attacking options to ease the reliance on Vardy.

Leicester City Targets Cyriaque Irie
In addition to Vardy’s heavy workload, Leicester suffered a major setback earlier this season with the long-term injury of Abdul Fatawu, leaving the team short of quality wing options.
The potential signing of Cyriaque Irie could address this issue while also adding firepower to Leicester’s frontline.
According to journalist Santi Aouna, Leicester is “on the lookout” for the 19-year-old winger, who currently plays for Troyes in France.
However, French side Lens is also interested and has reportedly submitted a €10 million bid, though Troyes are believed to be holding out for more.
What Leicester Fans Should Know About Cyriaque Irie
Irie began his career in Burkina Faso with Real du Faso before moving to Dijon in July 2023.
During his time with Dijon, he made 26 senior appearances, scoring seven goals and contributing three assists.
Troyes signed him in the summer of 2024, and he has since netted six goals and provided two assists in 23 matches this season.
Primarily a right-winger, Irie’s versatility allows him to excel as a center-forward and on the left wing, making him an ideal replacement for Fatawu.
If Leicester can secure his signature, Irie could provide much-needed depth and attacking dynamism to the squad.
