“Daniel Farke’s OBSESSION with Sebastiaan Bornauw EXPLODES: How Norwich’s 2021 Flop Turned into Leeds’ £5M MEGA-DEAL!”

Sebastiaan Bornauw is set to undergo a medical on Monday ahead of a move to Leeds United, following an agreement between Leeds and Wolfsburg.

The 26-year-old centre-back will reunite with Lukas Nmecha, who has joined Leeds on a free transfer from the same German club.

Bornauw is expected to sign a four-year deal at Elland Road, with Leeds capitalising on the fact that he had just one year remaining on his Wolfsburg contract.

This isn’t a spontaneous signing—manager Daniel Farke has long admired the Belgian defender and previously tried to bring him in during his time at Norwich City.

Back in 2021, after guiding Norwich to a second Championship title, Farke aimed to strengthen his squad for Premier League survival. Bornauw was one of the names identified as a target.

However, the defender opted for a move to Wolfsburg from FC Koln instead. In an interview with Het Laatste Nieuws that same year, Bornauw acknowledged interest from Norwich, Crystal Palace, and Lazio but explained that Wolfsburg was the best choice at the time.

He also expressed his ambition to eventually play in England—an ambition now being fulfilled.

Bornauw becomes Leeds’ third signing of the summer and the second central defender to arrive, finally giving Farke the player he has pursued for several years.

With the addition of Bornauw, Leeds now have five senior centre-backs, alongside young talent James Debayo.

Max Wober has been told he can leave the club, but the situation around Pascal Struijk remains uncertain. Struijk, once a regular starter, could now find himself as the fourth-choice option.

Joe Rodon and Jaka Bijol are expected to be Farke’s first-choice pairing, with Bornauw and Struijk in supporting roles.

Given Leeds still need a left-back, Struijk—who has previously played on the left—may now be viewed as depth in that position.
