Daniel Iversen Set for Free Transfer to Preston, Poised to Face Leicester in Championship as North End’s Likely No. 1
Leicester City have announced that goalkeepers Danny Ward and Daniel Iversen will leave the club this summer, joining veteran striker Jamie Vardy as senior players out of contract at the King Power Stadium.
None of the trio have been offered new deals, and they will depart at the end of June.
Ward exits after seven years at Leicester, following a £12 million move from Liverpool.
He served as Kasper Schmeichel’s backup for four seasons before being promoted to first-choice goalkeeper in the 2022-23 campaign.
However, he struggled to match his previous performances and lost his place to Iversen toward the end of that season.
His final appearance came in a 3-0 defeat to Wolves last December, where errors led to boos from fans and his subsequent omission by then-boss Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Iversen departs after nearly a decade with Leicester, having joined the youth setup in January 2016.
He impressed on loan at clubs like Oldham, Rotherham, and Preston North End before earning a place in the senior squad.
His only run as Leicester’s number one came at the tail end of the 2022-23 season, amassing 17 appearances.
Despite strong displays, including a notable game against Everton, he couldn’t help City avoid relegation.
Iversen, now 27, has secured a free transfer to Preston North End and could face Leicester next season.
The club released a statement saying: “All three leave with the heartfelt thanks of everybody at Leicester City for their contributions during their time at King Power Stadium, as well as our best wishes for the next chapters in their careers.”
In addition to the senior departures, eight young professionals will also leave the club.
Among them is midfielder Arjan Raikhy, who featured in three matches under former manager Enzo Maresca and spent the latter half of the season on loan at Tamworth in the National League.
Others heading for the exit include midfielder Oli Ewing; defenders Joe Wormleighton and Harvey Gardsmark-Ford; goalkeeper Brad Young; and academy players Deniche Hill, Ben Grist, and Liam McAlinney.
While many had been around the first-team setup, none made senior competitive appearances.
The summer exits signal a significant squad overhaul as Leicester prepare for the upcoming season.
