Graham Potter’s job at West Ham has become more complicated after it was confirmed that Aaron Wan-Bissaka will represent the Democratic Republic of Congo at international level.
The right-back, who recently sat out two matches with a minor injury, has now been passed fit to join the Leopards for their 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
His decision also commits him to the African Cup of Nations in January, meaning Potter faces the prospect of losing two senior full-backs midway through the season.
New arrival El Hadji Malick Diouf is also expected to feature at AFCON with Senegal, further tightening options in defence.
While Kyle Walker-Peters offers valuable versatility on both flanks, he obviously cannot cover two positions simultaneously.
That scenario could force Potter to accelerate the development of academy talent Ollie Scarles, giving the teenager more opportunities before the new year so he is prepared to step in at left-back when required.

Wan-Bissaka is understood to have taken time over his international future but, with West Ham’s medical team clearing him to travel, he has now committed to joining up with his national squad.
