David Moyes hints at a new strategy to solve Everton’s ongoing goalscoring woes.
Everton’s attacking struggles have been evident this season, with Beto and Thierno Barry managing just a single goal between them in the first 11 Premier League fixtures.
The lack of firepower has raised questions about the Toffees’ frontline and prompted speculation about potential reinforcements in the upcoming January transfer window.
The club have already been linked with possible moves for Al-Ahli’s Ivan Toney and FC Midtjylland’s rising star Franculino Dju.
Yet, David Moyes may not need to rely solely on the market.
The Scotsman dropped a hint during a live talkSPORT appearance on November 10, suggesting he could already have a solution within his squad at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Moyes acknowledged that addressing Everton’s lack of goals is crucial but hinted that internal adjustments could be the key.
He drew parallels with his previous spell at West Ham United, where he was often urged to sign a striker but instead converted existing players to fill the void.
“Even at West Ham, I used to be told, ‘you need to buy a new striker,’ and I thought they were probably right,” Moyes explained.
“But we couldn’t find one, so Marko Arnautovic became a centre-forward, Michail Antonio became a centre-forward. Sometimes you have to find it within if you can’t find it elsewhere.”
His comments suggest that he may be considering a similar approach at Everton, and one player who fits the profile is Iliman Ndiaye.
The Senegalese attacker has already demonstrated his versatility this season, moving from his preferred left-wing position to the right to accommodate Jack Grealish’s arrival.
Ndiaye’s numbers underline his attacking pedigree. Last season, he netted nine Premier League goals from the left, and this campaign he has contributed four goals and one assist from the right.
During his time at Sheffield United in 2022–23, he thrived as a centre-forward, registering 14 goals and 11 assists.
With that in mind, Moyes could consider deploying Ndiaye as a number nine, allowing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to operate deeper in midfield and create better balance in the side.
Such a shift might also open the door for young winger Tyler Dibling to receive more opportunities after his summer move.
This tactical reshuffle could reignite Everton’s attack, strengthen their overall structure, and even motivate Beto and Barry to rediscover their best form.
