The Esk questions Kevin Thelwell reports amid TFG-Everton decision update.

Uncertainty surrounds Kevin Thelwell’s future at Everton despite media reports, says The Esk.

Writing on his personal blog on 31 December, Everton insider Paul Quinn highlighted confusion surrounding claims that The Friedkin Group intends to retain Kevin Thelwell as the club’s director of football.

On 19 December, iNews journalist Mark Douglas reported that Dan Friedkin wants Thelwell to remain at Everton.

However, The Esk expressed uncertainty about what role the former Wolves executive would play in replacing Sean Dyche if the new owners were to dismiss the manager.

He stated: “The choice of who replaces Dyche is fascinating, particularly as it raises questions about who makes that decision and the role the Director of Football plays in it.

Media reports suggest support for Thelwell, but it’s unclear where those reports originated. Are they from club media personnel or the Friedkins?

Historically, such claims tend to come from club sources, who often back the status quo despite evidence suggesting otherwise.”

Who is Everton Chief Kevin Thelwell?

Kevin Thelwell joined Everton as director of football in February 2022.

Since then, he has managed transfers during one of the most financially difficult periods in the club’s history.

Despite two points deductions and frequent relegation battles, Everton has managed to remain in the Premier League.

In truth, Thelwell’s work deserves recognition for navigating these significant challenges effectively.
