Leicester City's PSR Issues Back in Focus as 2023/24 Accounts Near Release
In 2024, the Premier League charged Leicester City with breaching spending regulations during the three-year period leading up to the 2022/23 season.
While the club initially won their Profit and Sustainability Regulations (PSR) case, their financial situation remains a concern as their latest accounts are set to be released.
Earlier in the 2024/25 season, Leicester City News consulted finance expert Adam Williams, who shed light on the club’s financial troubles, pointing out a £90 million loss.
He stated, “The only published accounts relevant to their 2024/25 calculations—covering the three years up to June 30, 2025—are the 2022/23 books, which showed a £90m loss.”
Recent reports from The Guardian suggest Leicester could face another PSR charge.
With financial difficulties persisting, the club may need to sell players to offset ongoing losses.
Among the squad, Leicester lacks many high-value assets.
Jamie Vardy, despite being their best player, is unlikely to be sold, and Facundo Buonnote, valued highly, is only on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion.
This leaves goalkeeper Mads Hermansen as the most likely candidate for a significant transfer.
The Danish international, who has impressed during the 2024/25 campaign, has already attracted interest.
Over the summer, Hermansen was linked to Chelsea, with reports valuing him at £45 million.
Given that no other player at Leicester is likely to command a similar fee, the 24-year-old could be sold if the club needs to address its financial woes urgently.
However, Hermansen’s current fitness status complicates matters.
The goalkeeper has missed Leicester’s last four Premier League matches due to a groin injury.
The Foxes recently suffered a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa, and head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy provided an update on Hermansen’s condition before the match.
Van Nistelrooy commented, “He’s been assessed over the past week and is currently undergoing a rehab program.
We want him to return only when he’s 100 percent fit.
There isn’t a clear timeline yet, but he’ll be out for at least a couple more weeks.”
While Hermansen’s absence impacts Leicester on the pitch, his potential transfer remains pivotal to the club’s financial recovery.
