Tottenham Push for Mathys Tel Deal as Transfer Deadline Looms

Tottenham are keen to sign Mathys Tel before the transfer window closes on Monday, but they must act fast to finalize the deal.

With just days remaining, Ange Postecoglou’s side need to accelerate their pursuit of the Bayern Munich attacker. However, negotiations are complex.

Bayern would prefer to loan Tel out, but Spurs require a permanent solution up front.

Speaking on Stretford Post, journalist Ben Jacobs provided insight into the type of deal Tottenham are likely to pursue for the young forward.

Tottenham’s Likely Deal for Tel

According to Jacobs, Spurs are willing to buy Tel outright, but the most probable agreement would be a loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season.

The player’s valuation is estimated at around £60 million.

“A loan might suit all parties, but at the moment, Tottenham are prepared to buy,” Jacobs explained.

“Most likely, it will be a loan with an obligation, but a straight purchase is also possible.

If someone meets Bayern’s £60 million valuation, my sources from the past 24 hours suggest that a permanent sale would be preferred.

That could put Manchester United at a disadvantage.”

Spurs’ History with January Loan Signings

If Tottenham secure Tel on an initial loan, it would align with their past approach in the winter transfer window.

The club has frequently relied on loan deals in January, with mixed results.

One of their biggest successes was Dejan Kulusevski, who has since become arguably Tottenham’s best player.

Pedro Porro also arrived on loan before establishing himself as a key figure in the squad.

However, not all loan moves have been as successful.

Timo Werner, who recently joined on loan, has faced heavy criticism for his performances.

Similarly, Gedson Fernandes struggled during his short stint at the club and was ultimately deemed a flop.

Looking further back, Eidur Gudjohnsen added some quality to Spurs when he arrived on loan, but by that point in his career, he was past his prime.
