The trade involving Jakob Poeltl is being labeled a complete disaster for the Raptors, according to a source close to the Boston Celtics.
Brian Robb of MassLive slammed the Toronto Raptors’ trade for Jakob Poeltl, calling it “an absolute disaster” for team president Masai Ujiri.
Robb argued that the move, which cost the Raptors the No. 9 pick in the 2024 NBA draft, has left them in a tough spot.
Despite trading away key players like OG Anunoby and Pascal Siakam, the Raptors find themselves in a rebuilding phase with Poeltl’s hefty contract tying them down until 2027.
Following the Poeltl trade, tough questions have surfaced about the Raptors’ decisions since their 2019 championship win.
They’ve struggled, overpaying role players from that championship team while losing key contributors.
Masai Ujiri’s goodwill from the title is waning, with patience wearing thin. Additionally, the Boston Celtics narrowly avoided acquiring Poeltl, a move that could have been detrimental. Their offer included Payton Pritchard, Danilo Gallinari, and draft assets later used in trades for Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday.
