Addressing questions about the right-heavy structure, Frank told Football.London: “That’s correct.

I wanted two strikers playing close together, and at times it worked well. But of course, the game plan became far more complicated once we went 2–0 down.”

When pressed on whether the system made Spurs predictable, given that most attacks funnelled down the right, the 52-year-old acknowledged the issue: “In the first half we were clearly rushing too much.

We kept trying to go in behind when it wasn’t on, and we played through the middle when we shouldn’t. All of that came from being overly eager.

It’s hard to judge that first half in isolation. It was part of the overall picture, and things looked far better after the interval and even before I made the three substitutions.”

Frank accused of giving Spurs players mixed signals

Frank’s recent habit of frequently altering formations and line-ups has attracted criticism, with some suggesting he is responding too reactively to setbacks.

Before the Fulham match, former Spurs defender Ramon Vega accused him of confusing his players by constantly shifting tactical instructions.
