“Top Newcastle United Target Addresses January Interest Amid £20m Transfer Talks”

Tottenham and Manchester City join Newcastle United in the race for 20-year-old defender

Highly-rated Newcastle United target Abdukodir Khusanov has expressed his eagerness to join one of the world’s elite football clubs during the January transfer window.

Newcastle is actively seeking a central defender this winter after a challenging summer window, which was overshadowed by an extended pursuit of Marc Guehi and a failed attempt to sign former Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo.

The Magpies’ defensive resources are stretched thin due to injuries and other concerns.

Emil Krafth and Jamaal Lascelles remain sidelined, Sven Botman is recovering from a long-term ACL injury, Lloyd Kelly has struggled for first-team minutes, Fabian Schar is in the final months of his contract, and Dan Burn is in his 30s.

These issues have intensified Newcastle’s efforts to secure a new center-back to maintain their strong form during the winter.

Potential targets include Fikayo Tomori and Malik Thiaw, but the rising star of Uzbekistan, Abdukodir Khusanov, is reportedly at the top of their list.

Who is Abdukodir Khusanov?

Khusanov is a 20-year-old central defender currently thriving in a breakout season with French club RC Lens under coach Will Still.

The young defender rose to prominence in the Belarus Premier League in 2022, where he played a pivotal role in his team’s runner-up finish.

His performances earned him a four-year deal with RC Lens as the club sought to strengthen their squad for their first Champions League campaign since 2002.

In his first season, Khusanov made 16 appearances, most as a substitute, but etched his name in history by becoming the youngest Uzbek to feature in European competition at just 19.

Since Still’s appointment in the summer, Khusanov has become a key player for Lens, starting 16 of their 19 matches this season, only missing three due to suspension.

Known for his composure on the ball, exceptional passing range, and ability to disrupt opposition attacks with aggression and tenacity, Khusanov has cemented himself as one of the most promising young defenders in French football.

His performances have not gone unnoticed, drawing interest from top European clubs, including Real Madrid, Newcastle United, Tottenham, and Manchester City, according to Mirror Sport.

Khusanov’s Response to Transfer Interest

Khusanov’s agent has confirmed that the player is open to leaving France during the January window and is eager to move to one of the world’s best clubs.

He also stated that RC Lens is willing to facilitate the transfer, provided their valuation of the player is met.

The agent remarked: “Abdukodir has already proven himself as one of the best young defenders in Europe.

He is constantly improving and deserves the opportunity to play for one of the top clubs.

Our relationship with Lens is excellent, and we share the same goal of ensuring the best for the player. If a transfer is successful, Lens will be rewarded for their trust in a young talent.”

Khusanov’s rapid rise and outstanding performances have made him a hot commodity in the transfer market, and Newcastle could face stiff competition from other European giants to secure his signature.
