Tottenham Hotspur are said to be lining up a potential move for Ajax youngster Mika Godts, according to TEAMtalk.
After completing his move to the Johan Cruyff Arena from Belgian outfit KRC Genk two years ago, the 20-year-old attacker initially needed time to adapt before cementing his place as an important starter for Ajax.
During the current campaign, the young forward has taken a significant step forward, producing a series of eye-catching displays.
He has already contributed seven goals and eight assists from 22 appearances in all competitions, underlining his growing influence in the final third.
According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham Hotspur are eager to strengthen their options on the left side of attack when the January transfer window opens.
The North London club have identified several high-profile targets, including Rodrygo Goes, Antoine Semenyo, Savinho, and Yan Diomande.
That shortlist, however, presents multiple complications. Real Madrid are unwilling to consider a mid-season departure for Rodrygo, effectively ruling out any January move.
Meanwhile, Tottenham face stiff competition for Semenyo, with Manchester City, Manchester United, and Liverpool all believed to be ahead of Spurs in the race.
Elsewhere, RB Leipzig are expected to demand a hefty transfer fee to part ways with Diomande next month, which could price Tottenham out of a deal.
As for Savinho, any realistic chance of Spurs landing him may depend on whether Manchester City succeed in signing Semenyo themselves.
With those obstacles in mind, Thomas Frank’s side have reportedly turned their attention to Godts as a strong alternative should deals for the primary targets fail to materialise.
Tottenham scouts were in attendance for Ajax’s last two Eredivisie fixtures, closely monitoring his performances against Feyenoord and NEC.
Godts impressed in both outings, providing the assist for Ajax’s second goal in a 2-0 victory over Feyenoord and finding the net in a 2-2 draw against NEC.
Despite Tottenham’s interest, securing the Belgian will not be simple, as Newcastle United are also tracking his progress.
Valued at around £13 million by Transfermarkt, Godts still has three and a half years remaining on his contract, placing Ajax in a strong negotiating position.
Primarily a left winger, Godts is also capable of operating in an advanced midfield role when required. His style of play has even drawn comparisons to Belgian icon Eden Hazard.
Tottenham’s January plans remain uncertain as they assess attacking reinforcements.
