Tottenham Hotspur are considering a goalkeeper signing, but the key question is whether they will move in January or wait until the summer.
It has been reported by Alasdair Gold that Spurs are evaluating whether to bring in a temporary solution or focus on a long-term option to serve as an understudy to Guglielmo Vicario, with Fraser Forster currently in the backup role.
However, The Daily Mail reported that while the club recognizes the need for additional cover in goal, it is not a priority for the January transfer window. Instead, Tottenham are focusing on strengthening their attack and defense.
Three goalkeepers on Tottenham’s radar
According to The Times, Tottenham’s pursuit of a goalkeeper may be accelerated, with the club possibly bringing forward their plans for January.
They have been monitoring three potential targets: Burnley’s James Trafford, Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson, and Real Sociedad’s Alex Remiro.
Trafford and Patterson are both young English keepers performing well in the EFL, while Remiro stands out as a highly experienced player with 373 career appearances in La Liga and the Segunda Division.
What these targets indicate about Spurs’ plan
All three goalkeepers are skilled with the ball at their feet and capable of sweeping behind a high defensive line.
Trafford and Patterson would provide the advantage of being homegrown, which prevents the club from using a valuable non-homegrown spot on a backup keeper.
None of these three are seen as short-term solutions; instead, they represent long-term prospects to replace Forster as the backup to Vicario.
