“My Little Secret” – Bristol City’s Nahki Wells Admits He Would Have “Jumped” at the Chance to Play for Leeds

Daniel Farke’s Leeds United team will face Liam Manning’s Bristol City, featuring Nahki Wells, at Ashton Gate on Saturday, October 26.

Leeds are keen to close the points gap to Sunderland at the top of the Championship standings.

Wells, a forward who has drawn criticism from Leeds fans, has recently shared that he would have welcomed the chance to play for the club, contrary to what some believe.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Post on October 26, Wells said, “I’ve always had a tough time with Leeds fans and how they target me.

The last time I played at Elland Road, I injured my ankle, limped around the pitch, and the fans really gave it to me.

I understand why they might be hard on me—my connections with Bradford and Huddersfield, along with false rumors that I turned down Leeds.”

He continued, explaining the misunderstanding, “When I left Bradford, people thought I picked Huddersfield over Leeds, which didn’t go over well. But they don’t know the truth.

I didn’t even have the option to decline Leeds, and I would’ve jumped at the opportunity to join them.”

Wells recounted his early experiences in England and his admiration for Leeds United, saying, “When I first came to England, I was a student at Thomas Danby College in Leeds and attended a game at Elland Road.

The place left a big impression on me. I won’t lie—sitting there, I realized I’d love to play for this club.”

Wells remembers Leeds being in League One at the time, which only fueled his desire to play for the team, seeing players around the city and feeling envious.

“I really wanted to play for Leeds, but it just didn’t happen,” he admitted.

At 34, Wells is in the latter stages of his career, and his window to join Leeds has likely closed. Despite being in good form for Bristol City, his chance to make an impact at Elland Road has passed.

During Leeds’ time in League One, Wells could have been a significant addition due to his strong record in the lower leagues of the EFL.

As Farke’s squad heads to Ashton Gate, they won’t dwell on past missed chances with Wells but will focus on the present goal of winning.

This match represents an important opportunity for Leeds to solidify their status as Championship title contenders.

The team will be hoping to capitalize on the recent free-agent signing of Josuha Guilavogui while managing without the injured Largie Ramazani.
