Tottenham Hotspur are among several Premier League clubs keen on Bayern Munich striker Mathys Tel and are prepared to intensify their pursuit as the January transfer window nears its end, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Spurs are set to compete with Manchester United and Chelsea for Tel’s signature before the February 3 deadline and are reportedly “prepared to do something important” to bring the French forward to North London.
Tel has struggled for regular minutes under Vincent Kompany this season and is eager to leave Bayern in search of more game time.
His situation has attracted strong interest from multiple English clubs.
Romano reports that the 19-year-old will demand guaranteed playing time before committing to any move, with at least three Premier League clubs now pushing for his signature.
Spurs Set to Make a Move for Tel
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano revealed Tottenham’s willingness to make a serious bid for Tel in the closing days of the window.
“Tottenham would be prepared to do something important for Mathys Tel. So Tottenham want to try and want to go big.
“Chelsea, exactly the same, but Chelsea are not there for a loan. Chelsea want to sign and buy the player.
“Let’s see if they will be able to convince him, because obviously, at Chelsea, there are many players in that position, so Mathys Tel wants guarantees.
But again, let’s see what happens in these conversations.”
Tel, once tipped to “score 40 goals a season,” is weighing up both loan and permanent transfer options.
While Manchester United prefer a loan deal, Chelsea and Tottenham would rather sign him permanently, according to Romano.
The French attacker joined Bayern from Rennes in the summer of 2022 at age 17 but has found it difficult to secure consistent playing time.
He faces tough competition for minutes on the left wing with Kingsley Coman, Leroy Sane, and Serge Gnabry.
Despite being a natural left-sided forward, Tel is versatile and can play anywhere across the attacking line.
He has also gained experience operating as a centre-forward for Bayern.
This season, he has made 14 appearances across all competitions—only four as a starter—scoring once in 458 minutes.
