Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Oliver Skipp is set to join Premier League newcomers Leicester City, according to Sky Sports.
The two clubs have agreed on a deal worth £25 million, with Leicester paying an initial £20 million plus an additional £5 million in add-ons.
Skipp completed his medical examinations yesterday and is expected to move to the King Power Stadium in the coming days.
Although Leicester and Tottenham face each other in their Premier League opener later today, the deal won’t be finalized in time for the 23-year-old to feature against Spurs.
Skipp rose through Tottenham’s youth ranks before joining the first team in 2018. He spent a season on loan at Norwich City two years later and has been vying for a spot in Spurs’ squad since his return.
Last season, the English midfielder played a limited role for Tottenham, making 24 appearances across all competitions but starting just five of his 21 Premier League games.
Despite being heavily involved in Spurs’ pre-season campaign, the arrivals of Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall have pushed Skipp further down the pecking order.
Having made over 100 appearances for his boyhood club, Skipp will likely struggle for first-team minutes this season, making the move to Leicester beneficial for all parties.
Tottenham are putting their faith in Bergvall and Gray. Tottenham plans to debut either Gray or Bergvall in the Premier League tonight against Leicester, aiming to fill the void left by Skipp.
The young duo impressed during pre-season, influencing the club’s decision to allow Skipp to join Leicester on a permanent deal.
