Leicester City Summer Signing Lauded as ‘Only Bright Spark’ Against Augsburg as Cooper Hints at New Role

While pre-season results may not always be the top priority, Steve Cooper is likely concerned by Leicester City’s two recent defeats.

The squad fielded against Augsburg on Saturday is expected to closely resemble the team that will face Tottenham Hotspur in their season opener on August 19.

Cooper will be frustrated that the only goal conceded against Augsburg came from a set-piece, while Leicester struggled to create significant chances just two weeks before the season begins.

A bright spot, however, was Bobby De Cordova-Reid, who shone in a new attacking midfield role.

The Jamaican, signed on a free transfer from Fulham, appears to be a smart acquisition for a club that needs to be astute in the transfer market to stay competitive.

With 129 Premier League appearances and experience across various positions, including right-back and centre-forward, De Cordova-Reid could be a valuable asset this season.

Despite Leicester’s lack of sharpness in Germany, the 31-year-old stood out and was praised for his performance.

According to Leicestershire Live’s match ratings, De Cordova-Reid received a seven out of ten and was described as a “bright spark” who supported Fatawu and made several good runs into the box. His one-two with Mavididi was highlighted as a promising moment.

However, Leicester’s attacking options remain a concern. Jamie Vardy is expected to miss the start of the season due to injury and, even when fit, he is now 37 years old.

Patson Daka has not been prolific, and Kelechi Iheanacho has left the club. Despite De Cordova-Reid’s addition and Abdul Fatawu’s permanent move, Leicester appears light in attack.

Cooper may soon have an improved attacking option with the potential addition of Watford winger Yaser Asprilla for around £21 million. Yet, many Leicester fans feel more reinforcements are needed.

Given the club’s financial difficulties, the possibility of further signings remains uncertain.
