Tottenham ready to compete with Man United for 25-year-old winger

Tottenham are considering replacing a struggling forward.

Spurs’ decision to extend Timo Werner’s loan has not gone as planned, as the German forward has recently lacked confidence in front of goal.

Despite finally scoring an important goal against Manchester City, reports suggest Tottenham will likely not activate the £8.5 million purchase option and Werner is expected to return to RB Leipzig at the season’s end (GiveMeSport).

In the search for a replacement, Tottenham have identified a new attacking target.

According to TEAMtalk, Spurs are interested in re-signing former academy graduate Marcus Edwards, currently with Sporting Lisbon.

The 25-year-old has attracted attention from both Spurs and Manchester United.

Manchester United’s interest is linked to Ruben Amorim, who recently took over as manager at Old Trafford, having joined from Sporting Lisbon.

Amorim is reportedly eager to bring Edwards with him to his new club. However, Spurs may have an advantage in this transfer battle.

Although one might assume United has the edge with Amorim in charge, Edwards has not consistently featured in Sporting’s starting lineup under the manager over the past six months.

While the opportunity to reunite with a familiar coach and system might appeal to Edwards, he would also need to be confident about securing regular playing time.

An additional advantage for Spurs is a 35 percent sell-on clause they still hold on Edwards, which means they would pay a reduced fee compared to United.

This could make Tottenham an appealing option, potentially giving them the upper hand in securing their former player’sreturn.
