Leicester City to Encounter a Familiar Face in Next Season’s Championship Campaign

Alan Sheehan will reunite with his former club, Leicester City, next season after being confirmed as the new permanent head coach of Swansea City.

The 38-year-old was initially appointed in February on an interim basis following the departure of Luke Williams.

However, after collecting 23 points from 12 games and guiding Swansea to a top-half finish in the Championship, Sheehan has now signed a three-year contract.

With Leicester’s relegation confirmed, he is set to face the Foxes next season.

Sheehan began his playing career at Leicester in 2003 after being scouted in Dublin, making 29 appearances before embarking on a journeyman career that included spells with Leeds United, Notts County, Bradford City, and Luton Town.

He began coaching under Nathan Jones at Luton Town and later Southampton, before joining Swansea’s coaching staff in June 2023.

Now promoted to the top job, Sheehan has the opportunity to shape the team in his image.

While his backroom staff has yet to be finalized, former Leicester player Richard Stearman is currently assisting.

Speaking to the club’s website, Sheehan expressed gratitude and ambition: “The fans have been excellent to me.

I understand the responsibility I now have—to the club, the fans, the owners, staff, and players.”

“I won’t leave any stone unturned in trying to make this club successful. I’ve said before, it’s not just about surviving or being a manager for the sake of it—I want to bring this club to a better place.”

Outlining his vision, Sheehan added, “We want to be a competitive team. We need to build on what we have and improve it.

We’ve been aggressive both with and without the ball, and we aim to control games on both sides of possession.”
