Leicester City have reportedly held discussions with 57-year-old Chris Wilder regarding their vacant managerial position at the King Power Stadium, according to a recent update.
The Foxes are actively searching for a new head coach following Ruud van Nistelrooy’s departure, and a number of candidates have been considered.
Initially, Russell Martin was strongly linked with the job, and reports even suggested he had agreed to join the club.
However, the former Southampton manager ultimately opted to take charge of Rangers instead.
In the aftermath of that decision, Sean Dyche emerged as a possible candidate, while Leicester have also made Danny Rohl their top target.
Rohl’s reduced release clause—from £5 million to just £1 million—makes him an attractive prospect, but no agreement has yet been finalised.
Should talks with Rohl fall through, journalist Graeme Bailey claims that Leicester could turn to Dyche, who has a strong track record in the Championship.
Now, a new contender has surfaced. Football League World reports that Leicester have held talks with Chris Wilder, the experienced manager recently let go by Sheffield United.
Despite leading the Blades to a third-place finish and a play-off final appearance last season, the club’s new owners opted to pursue a different direction, parting ways with Wilder less than a month ago.
Wilder brings a wealth of Championship experience, having managed 189 matches in the division with 93 wins and an average of 1.69 points per game.
His notable achievement includes guiding Sheffield United to Premier League promotion in the 2017/18 season.
However, his Premier League record is less impressive, with just 20 wins from 90 matches.
Still, he represents a more attainable option for Leicester. Wilder is represented by the same agency as current Foxes defender Luke Thomas, giving the club a pre-existing relationship that could streamline negotiations—especially as Wilder is currently without a club.
This connection may give Leicester an advantage as they assess their options in the search for a new manager.
